Hendon FC These images are taken at Hendon Football club's former stadium on Claremont Road, in North West London. Shot between 2011 and 2015. Hendon FC (formerly called Hampstead FC, later Golders Green FC) moved into the grounds on Claremont Road on 18 September 1926. They played there for 82 years until their last game on the 20th September 2008. After which they moved out due to financial difficulties. After the Club left, the buildings quickly became derelict and the grounds suffered from fly tipping and squatting. At one point there were over 60 people living on the site with over a dozen shelters built across the site housing primarily Romanian and other Easter European Men. The camp was occupied for almost a year until reports were made by the BBC and other National Media. The site was evicted by the Police and Border Agency officials on 26th June 2013. After a long legal battle, the site was sold to Fairview Homes and a large development of expensive houses and apartments called Claremont Village are currently under construction. Many local residents and opponents to the sale of the site argue that the grounds are public land and should not have been sold to private developers. They argue that the breaking of the original covenant that protected the land sets a dangerous precident to similar sports grounds dotted around the country. This series is ongoing and more photos will follow.
